The Start of Me and You

It’s been a year since it happened—when Paige Hancock’s first boyfriend died in an accident. After shutting out the world for two years, Paige is finally ready for a second chance at high school . . . and she has a plan. First: Get her old crush, Ryan Chase, to date her—the perfect way to convince everyone she’s back to normal. Next: Join a club—simple, it’s high school after all. But when Ryan’s sweet, nerdy cousin, Max, moves to town and recruits Paige for the Quiz Bowl team (of all things!) her perfect plan is thrown for a serious loop. Will Paige be able to face her fears and finally open herself up to the life she was meant to live? (c)goodreads

I LOVE THIS BOOK. I REALLY DO and you might ask: then why you didn’t gave it a 5-star rating? Fair enough but this book is not that it-was-so-incredible-i-think-i’m-gonna-throw-up-rainbows-and-unicorns type of book. But you know why I love it? THIS BOOK HAS A HEART. Emery Lord really did a great job in this one.Honestly, when i started reading this, I expect that this is another typical YA read. But yeah, I guess I’m wrong. This book is about life, grieving and moving on, family dynamics, friendship and finding yourself. I like that Emery Lord doesn’t focus mainly on the romance. Actually, this is not really about romance. It’s more likely about friendship. I really love how Emery Lord gave emphasis on the importance of friendship — friends that are willing to do anything for each other (including carnapping your friend’s car in the middle of the night to rescue another friend hiding from the cops!). It’s just so sweet that I wanna pull them out from the pages of the book and be my friends here in real life.

I didn’t expect anything from this book. It was a random pick out of my tbr list. No oh-my-god!-finally-i’m-going-to-read-this-now or i’m-so-excited-i-wanna-melt-into-a-puddle-of-bliss. Just an okay-let’s-read-this. Then it turns out that it would be one of the books that I’m going to love, really. As I said earlier, not that incredible BUT good enough for a YA read. It was cute, geeky, a little swoon-worthy, nerdy, sweet and an adorable read.

Allow me to enumerate things I love about this book:

building and development of relationships
Quiz bowl
Culture pop

The Start of Me and You is a book I recommend to all fans of YA, Contemporary, romance and also to those who are hesitant to these types of genre. This book is for you. Seriously, don’t mind my rating. You will love this.
